It's going to be hot Thursday.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that will be in effect from noon today to 9 p.m. Saturday
Temperatures are expected to hit anywhere from 96 to 100 degrees today, with heat indices reaching 100 to 105 degrees for more than three hours. According to the National Weather Service, the conditions could lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion and dehydration.
The National Weather Service recommends that people drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has also declared an "Air Action Day" alert for June 28. Pollutants could cause issues for people with respiratory diseases such as asthma. The MDEQ advises people to limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
If wish to be out and about, we suggest the following places:
Macomb Township Recreation Center
Cool off in Macomb Township's only indoor waterpark. Residents can purchase a $5 daily pass ($10 for nonresidents) to use the entire recreation center, including the aquatic center. Lifeguards are always on duty.
"The coolest place in town," Suburban Ice has a constant indoor temperature of 55 degrees. Open skate is noon-1:50 p.m. Admission is $3 for all ages, with $2 skate rental.
From Stony Creek to Lake St. Clair Metropark, Macomb has its fair share of coastal and inland lakes. These lakes also include parks with athletic courts, walking trails and, in some cases, pools. There's a $5 vehicle entry permit to the park, but use of the beach is free.
There's a place for ice cream in just about every section of town. Cool off with a cone from one of Macomb Township's ice cream servers. There's Dairy Queen, Scoop & Twist, Babycakes Cafe, Hershey's and more! Check our directory for the shop closest to you.
Your Backyard or the Fountains at Partridge Creek
Hook the sprinkler up to the hose, twist the nozzle, and enjoy the icy cold spray. The pop-jet fountains at the Mall at Partridge Creek are also up and running (last we checked).
