It’s Raining Eggs! Hallelujah!
Lakepointe Church will host its first Macomb Egg Drop on Saturday, dropping some 20,000 eggs from the sky over Lutheran High School North.
Cold temperatures and snow are expected to continue this week, with a strong chance of eggs on Saturday.
Wait a minute. Eggs?
That’s right. On April 23, some 20,000 eggs will rain from the sky over Lutheran High School North in the first Macomb Egg Drop sponsored by Lakepointe Church.
“Lakepointe Church has always been about serving the community, and we think providing a great, free event like the Egg Drop is a great way to bring the community together,” said Scott Blanchard, lead pastor of Lakepointe Church.
A helicopter has been hired to facilitate this weather phenomenon and children from age 1 to fifth grade are invited to participate.
“We actually borrowed this idea from churches in Florida and North Carolina,” said Mark Nipper, executive pastor of Lakepointe Church. “A helicopter pilot will come in and drop the eggs and we’ll have the children divided into four groups. We just hope there will be a big crowd.”
Nipper said organizers are prepared for a large crowd and all children will have the opportunity to get some eggs.
Due to space constraints, not all 20,000 eggs will be dropped from the helicopter, and for safety reasons, children will be kept on the perimeter of the field until candy-filled eggs are no longer raining from the sky.
The Lutheran North football field will be divided into four parts, with children hunting in their designated age quadrant.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m. at the field and the drop will occur at 11 a.m.
One parent will be allowed to accompany children in the 1-3 age group, but parents of older children are asked to watch the festivities from the field’s bleachers.
“There will be volunteers at each section of the egg drop and we will send in one group at a time,” Nipper said. “We’ve hired two Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies to be on hand that day for security.”
Before and after the drop, children will also have the opportunity to bounce in inflatables and play other entertainment games at the event for free.
“I think it's going to be a great family event,” Nipper said. “It’s going to be fun for the kids. It’s something unique that they’ll remember for a long time and they’ll have fun. Lakepointe has a desire to be involved in the community, so that’s why we’re doing this event.”
