Macomb Santa's 2011 Trip to Detroit Projects Most Successful in 20 Years
The story of Mike Chase's annual Christmas trip to the Detroit Projects traveled from Macomb Patch to The Huffington Post and resulted in the most donations in the event's 20 year history.
Last month, Macomb Patch brought you the story of a Macomb Township man whose efforts to bring Christmas to the Detroit projects has earned him the name "Santa C."
For 20 years, Mike Chase has been distributing food, toys and clothes to residents of the Mound Road Housing Projects on Christmas morning. But it was only recently that his efforts were unrecognized by those outside his circle of family and friends.
Early in December, Patch was fortunate enough to hear Chase's story and have the opportunity to share it with the Macomb Township community. From there, the tale took on a life of its own, as other news organizations, including The Huffington Post, continued spreading the word.
It was this chain reaction of coverage that Chase said "resulted in the most donations in my 20 years of doing this charity."
Patch is pleased to have played a small part in the success of the 20th annual Christmas Run, and to now be able to bring these photos of the 2011 event to readers and supporters.
