Township Nurseries, Farm Markets Offer Harvest of Fall Fun
You don’t need to drive far: autumn activities abound right here in Macomb Township.
With gas prices hovering around $4 a gallon, it might be a good time to consider what nurseries and farmers here in the township have to offer in terms of fall fun this season. Whether you are in the market for a farm-fresh pumpkin, or just looking for a hayride, there’s lots to do right here in Macomb Township.
Ray Wiegand’s Nursery is hosting its annual Harvest Fest every weekend in October from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Look for a number of activities including:
- a scarecrow making contest,
- pirate scavenger hunt,
- gourd decorating,
- and pumpkin carving.
There’s also a petting farm, caterpillar maze, face paining, exotic animals, and warm doughnuts. Wiegand’s is located at 47747 Romeo Plank Road. Call 586-247-5533.
Deneweth’s Garden Center is home to Fall Fun Fest, also every weekend in October from noon to 5 p.m. One price covers every event, and there’s lots to do. Look for:
- haunted house,
- corn maze,
- hayride,
- games,
- spooky train rides,
- pumpkin painting and more.

There’s nothing like farm-fresh produce, especially fall pumpkins and summer sweet corn. Since it’s usually more fun to buy a pumpkin directly from the farmer (verses the grocery store) consider one of these local growers:
Altermatt Farms is a family-owned and operated business that has served the Macomb community for more than 50 years. The farm market, open through Halloween, sells fresh-picked corn, peppers, tomatoes, pickles, mums and other fall produce. Located at 16470 25 Mile. Call 586-781-3428. Boyka's Farm Market sells home-grown fruits, vegetables, flowers and plants. Located on 23 Mile Road, Boyka's opens every year in May. Located at 20555 23 Mile. Call 586-286-1886. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Kutchey Farm Market is a family-owned business that sells a variety of fresh-grown vegetables, including its popular Kutchey sweet corn. Olejnik Farms and Greenhouses is a family-owned and operated business that provides fresh and organic produce, perennials and a variety of garden flowers.
