Thief uses duplicate card
A 44-year-old Macomb Township woman reported to police that someone charged $218 in merchandise in Texas to her Discover credit card without her authorization, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.
The credit card company notified the victim Jan. 8 of the fraud that took place at a store in Universal Court, Texas. The unknown suspect was somehow able to obtain a duplicate card for the purchase and then tried unsuccessfully to charge another couple hundred dollars at the same location, a police report stated.
A Discover representative contacted the victim about the fraud and possible identity theft. The Macomb Township woman then closed her credit card account to prevent further unauthorized charges, the report stated.
2 men arrested for pot possession
Two 18-year-old men--from Sterling Heights and Macomb Township--were arrested shortly after midnight Jan. 9 in the area of Wayles and Adams for possession of marijuana, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Marijuana and drug paraphernalia was obtained from the suspect's vehicle. The pair was placed under arrest and the pickup truck they were in was towed, the police report stated.

The same credit theft occurred to 2 people in my family in the past 6 months. Research on the crime blames either unsafe online shopping hacked for card info where thieves then mold a card for use. The other method is a scanner placed over readers that copies the details electronically. It's seems very difficult to avoid unless we all go back to old school spending, cash and checks! Be cautious by going over credit card and bank statements often for charges that you're not familiar with. Be safe and be blessed in 2013. ~Maria
