A historic day for Detroit Tigers fans, on this day in 1905, Ty Cobb made his major league batting debut with the team. In local news, we see Macomb add two new businesses and talk with a local artist about her award-winning career.

  • You can leave your umbrella at home today, for there's not a raindrop in sight. It will be mostly sunny, with a high near 80 degrees during the day, and a few clouds will roll in this evening to drop the low to around 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service
  • Artist Shirl Hathaway has received hundreds of awards and recognitions for her work in a career that has spanned four decades. Now retired from Chippewa Valley, the Macomb Township resident continues to pursue her love of color, movement and expression.
  • Fans of food and auto parts have two new shopping options in Macomb with the recent opening of stores in the Pizza Hut and AutoZone chains. Pizza Hut opened two weeks ago and AutoZone just opened on Friday, Aug. 26.
  • It's now week six of the Your Patch of Michigan photo contest. For the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 3, the prize is a bunch of Patch-branded fun stuff–a T-shirt, tote bag and umbrella–and a $10 gift certificate to . Check out the winning photo from Week 5, submitted by a Shelby Township resident. Remember, the grand prize for this contest is a certificate for a two-night stay at Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island.
