Weekend Planner: Flamenco, Magic and a Side of Danish

Looking for something to do? The Macomb Center has plenty going on, from the best of the music and culture of Denmark to amazing magic and illusions to fiery flamenco dancing.

The weekend's here, and if tailgating isn't your thing, the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts has shows all three nights, with a few seats remaining, though we warn you if you want to see "Masters of Illusion" on Saturday, buy them fast!

"Delightfully Danish"

  • Where: Macomb Center for Performing Arts, 44575 Garfield, Clinton Township
  • When: 8 p.m. today
  • Pricing: $18
  • Why Go: Feel like adding a little Danish to your musical menu? How about the Macomb Symphony Orchestra's annual salute to the music and culture of Denmark. Enjoy musical selections by famed composers, plus folk art on display in the lobby.

"Masters of Illusion, Live"

  • Where: Macomb Center for Performing Arts, 44575 Garfield, Clinton Township
  • When: 7 p.m. Saturday
  • Pricing: $20 student, $42 house, $47 gold circle
  • Why Go: If you've seen the TV show "Masters of Illusion," check it out live, with several magicians on one stage, performing escapes, comedy, quick-change, sleights of hand, mentalist acts and more.

"Gypsy Fire"

  • Where: Macomb Center for Performing Arts, 44575 Garfield, Clinton Township
  • When: 3 p.m. Sunday
  • Pricing: $42 house, $47 gold circle
  • Why Go: Can you feel the sizzle? Jose Porcel and his dance company will dance the flamenco to traditional music. Saturday may be Sweetest Day, but the day after will be the hottest one.

Other happenings

  • SOUPerbowl Benefit, with all-you-can-eat soup and bread, Irish step dancers, raffles and drawings, to benefit Capuchin Soup Kitchen, held noon Sunday at American Polish Century Club, 33204 Maple Lane, Sterling Heights. $20.
  • Free Family Fun. Families can stop in for a couple ghoulishly good craft projects, Ghostly Graveyards or Mask-Making, from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Anton Art Center, downtown Mount Clemens. Free, but donations will be accepted to fund the Center's programs.

That's hardly all that's happening around the area this weekend. For more ideas, visit Macomb Patch's Events calendar.
