What Should Take the Former Manhattan Marketplace's Spot on Hall Road?
The storefront at 18493 Hall Road has been home to several small grocery stores. It is currently vacant. What business would you like to see move into this space?
You've lived in Macomb Township for five, 10, maybe 25 years, but have you ever had a say in community planning?
Despite its name, community planning is not a community-wide effort. We're going to change that–even if it's just in theory–here on Patch.
Taking a 21st-century spin on community planning, Patch is putting everything on the digital drawingboard and asking residents to share their visions for vacant properties in town.
Every other week, we'll present a new vacant building and ask you to tell us what you think would be the best use. Forget what zone it's in, ignore setback regulations, dump lot coverage rules and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community?
Two weeks ago, we asked about the historic, but fading Stier's Hardware & Power Equipment at 48980 Romeo Plank Road, on the corner of 22 Mile Road. While this building is still privately owned, it has not held regular business hours for some time. Some readers said they would like to see it remain for historic purposes, but most expressed concern that the building's location on the corner of 22 Mile and Romeo Plank is a traffic hazard, saying they would rather see it torn down than put another business in its place.
This week, we turn our attention to the former home of Manhattan Marketplace and other small grocery stores at 18493 Hall Road. Tucked between American Cycle & Fitness and Party Adventure, the store is just west of Romeo Plank in Macomb Township.
What type of business would you like to see move into this space?

On the Macomb Patch Facebook page, there was a suggestion for Trader Joe's and another suggestion for Chick-fil-a. What do you think?
