Your 2012 Guide to Summer Events in Macomb Township
All week long, we'll help you prepare for the long, warm days ahead. Today: here's a list of the main events you won't want to miss in June, July and August.
School's almost out for summer, so it's time for Patch to help you plan your next three months.

- When: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday; June 19 (Rosco’s Silly Magic Show), June 26 (Rosco & the Exotic Zoo with Javon Stacks), July 10 (Rosco & Cool Tricks and Funny Stuff Magic and Comedy Show), July 17 (Rosco’s Fun & Games Day)
- Where: Town Center Park, off 25 Mile Road
- Why go: Rosco the Clown brings a special show for families and children of all ages each week to Town Center Park. Parents can park themselves on a blanket or lawn chair, while the kids enjoy inflatables, games and tricks performed by Rosco and friends. Bring a brown bag lunch, or buy pizza from area vendors.
St. Isidore Strawberry Festival
- When: 6-11:30 p.m., Friday, June 22; 5:30-11:30 p.m., Saturday, June 23; 12:30-7:30 p.m., Sunday, June 24
- Where: St. Isidore Catholic Church, 23 Mile and Romeo Plank
- Why go: This is a festival for the whole community, featuring live music and raffles every night, along with countless activities for the kids, from balloon animals and cotton candy to a game tent and bounce house. Enjoy an Italian (Saturday) or Polish (Sunday) dinner with, what else, strawberry shortcake for dessert.
- When: Race starts at 8:15 a.m., Saturday, June 30; family fun fair from 9:30 a.m.-noon
- Where: Starts at Immanuel Lutheran Church on 21 Mile Road, finishes at St. Peter Lutheran Church on 24 Mile Road
- Why go: This community-wide run/walk is the first event of its kind in Macomb and the first on which the three parishes have collaborated. The race benefits Soles4Souls and Macomb County’s homeless students.Even those not planning to participate in the 5K are invited to join the post-race festivities at St. Peter, where a family fun fair featuring inflatables, entertainment and food will be open to all.
Fireworks Around Macomb
- When: Sunday, July 1 at 10 p.m.; Monday, July 2 at 10 p.m.
- Where: Stony Creek (July 1); Lake St. Clair (July 2)
- Why go: Macomb Township doesn't hold its own fireworks display, but area metroparks offer a convenient, low-cost option to get in the spirit of July 4. A $10 special event daily vehicle permit is required after 5 p.m. for all fireworks events. Admission is free with an annual permit.
Movie Under the Stars & Family Fun Concert
- When: 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3, movie starts at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.)
- Where: Town Center Park, off 25 Mile Road
- Why go: Watch a family-friendly film and enjoy an interactive concert with Outstanding Guy Lewis & the Chautauqua Express. Free glow bracelets will be distributed at dusk and a family-friendly bug spray station will be provided. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and camp out under the stars.
- When: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14
- Where: Town Center Park, off 25 Mile Road
- Why go: Watch Smurfs with family and friends under the stars. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy live music before the show and kick back to watch the film on the portable big screen as dusk sets in. There will be games and activities for the kids and giveaways before the movie.
