Would it be summer in Michigan without the orange barrels?
Today it's sections of 24 Mile Road. In a few months, it will be the 23 Mile bridge over the Clinton River and perhaps segments of Fairchild Road. In all, several miles of Macomb Township roads will be paved and resurfaced before year's end.
Here's a guide to some of the major road projects planned for this summer in Macomb Township.
Dates: June 16-19
Where: Eastbound M-59 from Van Dyke Avenue to Hayes Road.
What to watch for: Two lanes will be closed for paving repairs beginning at 9 p.m. June 16 and reopening by 5 a.m. June 19. Median crossover repairs will take place from 8 p.m. June 15 until 5 a.m. June 18.
23 Mile Road Bridge
Dates: August to November
Where: 23 Mile Road bridge over the north branch Clinton River to North Avenue
What to watch for: The two-lane bridge will be replaced with a five-lane span, resulting in complete closure of the bridge. Detours will be posted north to 26 Mile Road and south to 21 Mile Road. Macomb Township is working to pave a portion of 24 Mile prior to the bridge closure to use as another detour.
24 Mile Road, Card to North Avenue
Dates: Ongoing, end date unknown
Where: 24 Mile Road between Card Road and North Avenue
What to watch for: 24 Mile Road will be closed from Card Road to North Avenue for the installation of a water main beneath the Clinton River and for paving operations from the east end of the bridge over the Clinton River to the west side of the North Avenue intersection. Detour will be posted and in effect for the duration of the project.
24 Mile Road, Foss to Fairchild
Dates: June to mid-August
Where: 24 Mile Road from Foss to Fairchild
What to watch for: Throughout the spring and summer, water main installations have and will continue to close portions of 24 Mile Road. This section of road will be resurfaced as a result. Resurfacing should not be confused with paving. Detours will be posted.
Fairchild and 22; 24 Mile east of North Avenue; and Fairchild north of 21 Mile
Macomb Township's board of trustees voted May 23 to set aside $3.8 million to pave portions of Fairchild and 22 Mile Road, Fairchild north of 21 Mile and 24 Mile east of North Avenue.
While it is possible the Fairchild and 22 Mile Road segment will be paved in 2012. It is more likely the majority of construction will be done in 2013.
