I don't now how old your children are, but I wouldn't burden and complicate their childhood withRead More politics. It's bad enough we have to endure all the stress and crap on TV as adults.
Jenny Whalen November 2, 2012 at 11:58 pm
While I agree about the politics, it's never too early to start teaching our kids about theirRead More rights, or how to critically think. If we're going to wait for our kids to reach high school civics to start asking questions, we're going to be in for a world of trouble.

Jenny, I couldn't have said it better myself! Teaching critical thinking skills is essential,Read More especially in a democracy where we have the right to vote and have our voice heard.

My only comment is what my daughter, who is going to be 18, said to me. "If I wanted the fries,Read More I had to order a complete meal which had an apple, and then get the side of fries, and if I wanted ketchup it was .50 cents." I hope the extra money made with the new lunches goes back to fund the schools. I was glad she ate the apple.

Tracey, what school are you talking about? I'm glad to hear that there was not an option to buyRead More only fries.

I would have to agree... some children are ready some are not... kids today are forced to grow upRead More way to fast. In regards to my kids, my son was not ready for many different reasons where as my daughter is so ready!!! In regards to what do you do with a 3rd grader who isn't ready for 4th grade, well in the end you have to make the tough choice there... push him onto 4th so he stays with his friends or hold him back? I believe if your child isn't ready you should hold them back in the earlier years like kindergarten. I had a friend who did this and her child is excelling in his grade. Life as a parent never gets easier and school is something we all have to deal with and make our own choices. I sent my kids to pre-school, did it help them in the long run, yes I believe it did. They were ready for kindergarten and all aspects of what was expected of them. I'm glad there is going to be full day kindergarten, wish for me it would have happened a year earlier, but glad when my son was in kindergarten it was even brought up. Good luck to all of you that have children going into kindergarten in fall!!
