MDOT Imposes Seasonal Weight Restrictions on State Highways in Michigan

Weight restrictions will be enforced on all state trunkline highways beginning March 26.

In an effort to curtail damage to Michigan's roads this spring, the Michigan Department of Transportation has imposed seasonal weight restrictions on all state trunkline highways. The weight restrictions will apply to state routes with an "M," "I," or "US" designation. In the restricted areas, the following will apply: All extended permits will be valid for oversize-only loads in the weight-restricted area on the restricted routes. Single-trip permits will not be issued for any overweight loads or loads exceeding 14 feet in width, 11 axles and 150 feet in overall length, on the restricted routes. Macomb County to Offer Free Paper Shredding, Medication Disposal for Seniors

Macomb County seniors will be able to dispose of medication, and have documents shred, April 11 at Freedom Hill.

Seniors in Macomb County will have an opportunity April 11 to dispose of unwanted medication, and  have personal documents shred for free, at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights. Macomb County Senior Citizen Services and mobile shredding company, Absolute Shreds, will shred unwanted personal documents. Additionally, Health Department officials and a deputy from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office assist seniors with the disposal of unwanted medications. Pills must be removed from bottles and placed in a plastic bag, according to Macomb County. Narcotic painkillers and stimulants will be accepted, but must be placed in a separate plastic bag, officials added. Law Enforcement Academy for Seniors Accepting Registrations

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for the next Law Enforcement Academy for Seniors.

The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is accepting registrations the next Law Enforcement Academy for Seniors. The five-week series of classes allows seniors to learn about the operations of the Macomb County Sheriff's Office and its different divisions. Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham is presenting academy with the with the assistance of the Macomb County Senior Citizen Services Department. $13.5 Million Construction on Groesbeck Underway

During the project, which covers 3.4 miles of pavement between 14 Mile and Hayes roads, two lanes will be open in each direction during peak travel times.

Motorists from Macomb Township heading south to central Macomb County beware, six months of road work on Groesbeck between 14 Mile and Hayes roads is scheduled to start this week. Crews will begin a $13.5 million resurfacing project on Monday, March 18, and the Michigan Department of Transportation predicts the orange barrels will stay out through October. Construction is due to take place in two stages, starting with southbound Groesbeck and finishing with the northbound side. Work will include drainage and utility upgrades, as preliminary signal work has already been completed.  Because this is a highly-traveled stretch of highway, two lanes will be open in each direction of Groesbeck during peak travel times. Playground for Children with Special Needs Coming to Macomb Corners Park

Macomb Township will install the new equipment this year at a cost of $69,700, according to The Macomb Daily.

Macomb Corners Park will have a new playground for children with special needs this summer, according to a report in The Macomb Daily. Though the park is handicap accessible, it does not have playground equipment for disabled children. But that will change with the installation of the $69,700 set this year. The funding will come from Community Development Block Grant funds, according to The Macomb Daily. CDBG programs provide funds for a variety of community development needs, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Candice Miller, who represents Michigan's 10th congressional district will receive the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence Monday.

Officials Dedicate Macomb Post Office to Fallen Marine

U.S. Rep. Candice Miller and others honored Macomb Township native Anthony DiLisio, who died in Afghanistan.

U.S. Rep. Candice Miller and other local leaders dedicated a Macomb Township post office to a fallen Marine on Friday, according to a report in The Macomb Daily. A Macomb Township native and Dakota High School graduate, Anthony DiLisio died in Afghanistan on on May 30, 2010, while patrolling outside his camp. The post office, located at 15285 Samohin Drive, is now called the Lance Corporal Anthony A. DiLisio Clinton-Macomb Carrier Annex after Congress passed a bill late last year. “It’s an honor, a big honor,” Anthony’s father, Lorenzo DiLisio, told The Macomb Daily.
