Third Annual Women’s Entrepreneur Conference at Walsh College on March 26

This marks the third year Walsh College is hosting the Women’s Entrepreneur Conference, Entrepreneur-YOU, at its Troy Campus. Entrepreneur-YOU provides educational, development, and networking opportunities to women who are passionate about owning and operating a business.

In 2012, a collaboration of local businesswomen created this event, driven by their determination to guide women in reaching their professional goals. These women envisioned the result of this conference to positively impact the region’s economy while helping women start and grow successful businesses. The collaborators for this year’s event include Inforum Michigan, Michigan Women’s Foundation, and Walsh College.

Entrepreneur-YOU is a day-long conference that offers a variety of workshops taught by business professionals. The event offers four tracks with work sessions and panels to assist participants, particularly in the start-up and first stage and mostly in “lifestyle,” businesses. Presenters include Molly McDonald, Elizabeth Garlow, Emily Hay, Sharon McRill, Dawn Drozd, Catherine Juon, Carlotta Tutt Holloway, Kathryn Baker, Lynne Golodner, Kim Ingram, Rebecca Davies and more.

The keynote speaker for this year’s event is Alyssa R. Martina, founder and publisher of Metro Parent Magazine. Martina has launched numerous ventures in the media space. In 1986, she launched Metro Parent, which has grown to become a “parenting bible” for more than 250,000 readers. Metro Parent has won national awards for best parenting website. Martina has also started other publications: two additional parenting magazines and a resource for African American families titled Black Life Arts and Culture. Her newest venture, which is receiving a large amount of attention from the tech world, is a social-networking site and app called memloom.
