Economic Recovery Expected to Continue in 2014

Macomb Community College President Jim Jacobs Wednesday delivered the annual Economic Forecast for Macomb County.

Macomb Community College President Jim Jacobs said the county can expect to see the economic recovery to continue into 2014 during the annual Economic Forecast at Zuccaro Banquets and Catering in Chesterfield Township.

The event, sponsored by the the Chamber Alliance of Macomb County, brought together community and business leaders for the annual address.

Jacobs said that Macomb County continues to see an increase in population, with new residents moving in from Wayne County and from countries around the world. Additionally, the resurgent automotive industry, military investment and growth in housing is helping the local economy.

While there are positive signs, Jacobs identified possible "wild cards" which could help, or hinder, the local economy:

  • Big Three profit sharing
  • Federal Reserve policies will promote economic growth
  • Healthcare law implementation
  • Regional Transportation Authority
  • Recovery of the city of Detroit
