Get Out: Celtic Music, Classic Rock and the Cold War

There's a great mix of history, fund-raising fun and music planned for this weekend and we've got the dates and details right here.


Where/When: Lorenzo Cultural Center, 7-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10.
Why Go: The Lorenzo Cultural Center's latest exhibit is The 1950s: Anxiety and Affluence in the Atomic Age. Highlights of the series include a chance to hear lectures by renowned historians and authors, including one lecture by historian Paul Boyer. He will discuss the Cold War, President Eisenhower and more.
Pricing: The cost to hear Boyer is $15 or $5 for seniors, students and military. The cost of the meet and greet presentation that starts at 5:30 p.m. is $20. Call 586-286-2222 to buy your ticket.


Where/When: Villa Penna, 6 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday, March 11.
Why Go: It's a night of black-tie fun to benefit Immanuel Lutheran School. Enjoy a Hollywood theme, premium drinks, full sit-down dinner, dancing and auctions.
Pricing: $60.

Why Go: Enjoy live music as acoustic guitarist and vocalist Denise Sonntag and sax/blues harp/flute-player Billie "Burnin" Furman perform classic rock covers of the songs and bands you love.

Where/When: Macomb Center for Performing Arts, 8 p.m. Friday, March 11.
Why Go: Hear the classic Celtic sounds of the Emerald Isle, brought to you by the famed Irish Rovers. The perfect way to get into the spirit of the holiday.
Pricing: $37-$52, with discount for seniors 55 and older, military, students and Macomb Community College staff with valid ID.

Why Go: The Central Macomb Optimist Club is holding its third St. Patrick's Day Party at Cracklewood to benefit the Macomb Charitable Foundation. Enjoy a buffet dinner, open bar, live music and dancing. Also take advantage of the chance to win some great prizes.
Pricing: $45 per person.
