Grab & Go Kids Planner: Dr. Seuss, Ruby Slippers and Frugal Fiction

Looking for family-friendly fun this week? We've got options, from two Dr. Seuss celebrations to book bargains and a trip down the Yellow Brick Road.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK


Where/When: Clinton-Macomb Public Library, North Branch, Wednesday, March 2, 11 a.m.
Why Go: Bring the kids for a Seussabration. Celebrate the good doctor's birthday with a reading of Green Eggs and Ham, followed with cooking up some of the same. For ages 3-6.
Pricing: Free. But please register.


Where/When: Clinton-Macomb Public Library, Main Branch, Wednesday, March 2, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m.
Why Go: Just about everyone has childhood memories of Dr. Seuss' stories, and in honor of the man there will be stories, crafts and games. Anyone is invited to come by for Seuss-inspired fun, whether you're a child or child at heart.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: Macomb County Public Library, Main Branch, March 2-7. March 2 is for Friends of the Library members only, open to the public on all other days.
Why Go: Books, CDs and DVDs and more will be for sale at rock-bottom prices. You'll be able to rummage through and choose from thousands of items, and whatever you buy will help the Friends of the Library, which funds movie nights, special exhibits and more. (See our preview story .)
Pricing: Depends on what you buy, but most items are less than $1.


Where/When: Macomb Intermediate School District Conference Center, Saturday, March 5, from 8 a.m-3:30 p.m.
Why Go: This parenting conference features regional and nationally known speakers who will discuss parenting issues.
Pricing: $35 per person. Includes continental breakfast and lunch.

Where/When: St. Luke Lutheran Church School, Saturday, March 5, 10:30 a.m.-noon.
Why Go: The school is holding an Early Childhood Fun Fair and Open House, which features magic, fun, games, door prizes and free lunch for all. For children ages 2-6, accompanied by parent or guardian.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, Saturday, March 5, at 3 p.m.
Why Go: Journey somewhere over the rainbow and see this classic come to life. Watch Dorothy and Toto make their way through Oz as she befriends the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion and they battle the Wicked Witch of the West. This production boasts timeless songs, amazing effects and cool choreography.
Pricing: $15-50.
