Halloween Hoopla Promises Delightful, Frightful Family Night

One of the Parks & Recreation Department's signature events, the Halloween Hoopla will be held Oct. 21 from 6-8:30 p.m. Tickets are expected to be sold out by the end of September.

Life will take a turn for the spooky Oct. 21 as hundreds of guests, human and otherwise, fill the to treat, dance and and be scary at the annual Halloween Hoopla.

Billed as a spooky, kooky, delightful, frightful family-friendly costume carnival, the Halloween Hoopla is one of the Parks & Recreation Department’s signature events.

“We sell out every year,” said Michelle Duda, Parks & Recreation program leader. “I expect we will be sold out by the end of September … because it is jam-packed with unique fun at a very reasonable price.”

To date, the department has sold more than 450 tickets and is planning to cap off attendance when sales hit 675.

All tickets must be purchased in advance, as there are no tickets available at the door. Tickets will be sold until Oct. 17, or until sold out–which Duda said is likely to happen first.

Everyone is invited to dress up, but only younger witches, wizards, ghouls and guests can take a turn around the Trick-or-Treat Trail.

Dozens of local businesses–Patch included–will be posted along the recreation center’s second-floor walking track where passing trick-or-treaters can collect sugary snacks from each.

On the recreation center’s main floor, families will find Monster Studio 54, the Freaky Hair Salon & Spa, Caution Café, the Craft “Boo”-tique, the Addams’ Family Portrait Studio, a gym filled with inflatables, and a magic show.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Oct. 21 and the event ends at 8:30 p.m.

The registration fee for Macomb Township residents is $5 and $10 for non-residents. This fee is per person for all ages, including children.

Registration can be done online, by mail or in-person at the Recreation Center, located at 20699 Macomb St., Macomb, MI 48042. Use registration No. 344302-A.

Donate Left-Over Candy

If your child is planning to collect more candy than your dental plan can afford, you might want to consider making a donation to Candy 4 Kids. From Nov. 1-19, the Macomb Township Recreation Center will be collecting left-over Halloween Candy for two special projects.
