Macomb in a Nutshell: June 22

It's Day 2 of Summer 2011 and we have just the news you need to get up to speed.

  1. With yesterday being the first "official" day of summer, today's 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms could be the first summer storm of the season. We're looking at a high near 81 degrees, but mostly cloudy skies with wind gusts as high as 18 mph. There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight and the low drops to around 64, according to the National Weather Service
  2. In recognition of Macomb Township's German roots, we bring you the German Word of the Day: immer wieder, meaning again and again, is an adverb pronounced [immer veeder].
  3. The case surrounding the Feb. 23 stabbing of a Macomb Township woman continues in Shelby Township's 41A District Court at 1 p.m. today, as the prosecution presents further evidence against suspect Joseph Reiner of Fraser. Reiner, his attorney Timothy Barkovic and prosecuting attorney William Cataldo, last appeared before Judge Douglas P. Shepherd on June 9.

  5. In a nod to our New Baltimore neighbors, we bring you information about the highly-anticipated Bay-Rama Fishfly Festival. The festival kicks off at 3 p.m. and the carnival Midway opens. From 6-11 p.m. the band NI4NI performs rock music, and at 6:30 p.m., the Queen's Pageant will be held in the Festival Tent, as the new Miss Bay-Rama is crowned.
