Macomb Senior Wins $500 Scholarship as Youth Ambassador

The Macomb Township Community Foundation has awarded De La Salle senior, Marco Matassa, a $500 college scholarship for 2012-13.

Macomb resident and De La Salle senior, Marco Matassa, has won the first-ever Youth Ambassador Scholarship through the .

Matassa, 18, was one of 13 area students to join the . This program was created by MTCF to give area students an opportunity to take an active role in their community and learn the ways in which nonprofit organizations and local government work.

"Marco Matassa is our first Youth Ambassador Scholarship winner, and he is a fine example of students throughout the area who take time to share their skills and talents in helping to make our county a better place to live and learn,” said MTCF Scholarship Committee Chairperson Gary E. Cynowa, in a prepared statement.

“Their creativity and enthusiasm are truly an inspiration to all of the adults and other students who have a chance to observe them as they serve our foundation and others.”

Matassa will receive a $500 scholarship to continue his education at the college level during the 2012-13 school year.

The foundation also awarded 10 other $500 awards to Macomb Township students .

The now 11 winners, their families and their principals will be recognized May 17 at the foundation's annual scholarship awards dinner at the .

Tickets for the recognition dinner are $50 and include a catered meal with refreshments. The event is 6-8 p.m.
