ROAD CLOSED: Water Main Break Closes 24 Mile Between Jewell and Schoenherr

All lanes of 24 Mile Road between Jewell and Schoenherr remain closed Wednesday as work crews continue to repair a broken water main.

The stretch of 24 Mile Road between Jewell and Schoenherr roads in Shelby Township will remain closed today as .

Shelby Township Fire Chief James Swinkowski told Patch that 24 Mile Road would remain closed for at least a few more days to allow crews to repair the break and the surrounding roadway that was damaged.

"Even though you can see the concrete it may not be safe to walk on it," Swinkowski said, adding that the area had suffered severe soil erosion.

Water started gushing from the broken 36-inch Detroit water main before noon Tuesday.

Residents who live on 24 Mile Road between Jewell and Schoenherr are being allowed to enter and exit, but Swinkowski said there are about 25 homes in a subdivision that are basically trapped by the water.
