Staycation Wednesday: Go Fly a Kite!

Staying in Macomb for spring break? Check Patch every day this week for a new family-friendly staycation idea.

As Mary Poppins might say, today is a practically perfect day to go fly a kite. It will be sunny, with a high near 55 degrees, and breezy, with wind gusts as high as 29 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

This is perfect kite-flying weather.

If you don't have a kite on hand, you can find one for a few dollars at local stores like , and . And should you be feeling especially crafty, you can even try making one. The National Geographic Kids website offers a great how-to guide using only household items, such as trash bags, fishing line and sticks or wooden dowels.

Once you have your kite in hand, head to an area park or athletic field–anywhere with lots of space and few trees. Schools are out for spring break, so you're free to take over the outfield of the local baseball diamond or the practice fields at the high school.
