TGA Drives Fifth Parent-Child Golf Outing at Sycamore Hills

Adult-child teams can still register for the May 7 TGA spring outing, which will feature nine holes of golf, prizes, warm-up clinic and buffet dinner.

It will be a family affair at Sycamore Hills this Saturday as the local greens play host to the Macomb TGA’s fifth parent-child golf outing.

Held twice annually, the outings are designed more to foster play between the generations than competition.

“It’s a great opportunity and a fun event,” said Dave Robinson, territory director for . “It’s very low key. We do have competition, but teams can choose to keep score or just have fun on the scorecard.”

However, there are prizes for select shots such as longest drive and shot closest to the hole.

Although the event is called the “parent-child” outing, Robinson said teams could also be grandparents with grandchildren or aunts and uncles with nieces and nephews.

“There must be an adult and child, but there is no formal cut off (for the age of the child).” Robinson said. “Although most of the kids are 5-14, the young teen years.”

The spring outing will be organized as a half-scramble, half-alternate-shot event, a format that will allow both players to actively drive the ball down the green.

“Both players hit a tee shot and go to the best one,” Robinson said. “From that point forward it’s alternate shot, which allows kids to hit some shots that count, too, so the adult doesn’t dominate.”

The outing starts at 2 p.m. Saturday with registration and a brief warm-up clinic before teams head out to the greens.

Each team will have the opportunity to play nine holes, with teams starting on different holes to keep as many teams in play as possible.

Once teams finish their round they can take part in the buffet dinner that, along with the use of a cart, is included in the registration fee of $69 per team.

Family members not participating in the golf portion of the event are welcome to watch the tournament and join their team for dinner, which costs $10 per person.

To register for the event visit the TGA website or call or e-mail Robinson at 586-489-8332 or daverobinson@golftga.com.

Online registration is also available for TGA Premier Junior Golf summer camps at Sycamore Hills. These one-week camps are held for nine weeks throughout the summer.
