Today's News Fast: Aug. 11

An excuse to buy a Blizzard, the final decision on Beck and Ebeling crossing guards and a class service project that has Immanuel students filling backpacks with food rather than supplies.

  • Things continue today in the 70s and the rain takes a day off. It will be mostly sunny with a high around 77 degrees. A few clouds will roll in this evening and drop the low to around 59 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Overall, a pleasant change from this summer's heat waves.
  • The crossing guard issue at Ebeling and Beck elementary schools has been solved ... temporarily. Until the schools complete their SEMCOG/Wayne State safety programs, each will have two crossing guards.
  • Dairy Queen is partnering with the Children's Miracle Network today for Miracle Treat Day. Today, for every Blizzard sold, DQ will donate $1, $2 or net proceeds from that sale to the local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Need a better excuse to indulge?
  • Before they head back to school at Immanuel Lutheran, eighth graders will visit Gleaners in Warren to help fill backpacks with food for the hundreds of children in need in Macomb County.
  • In recognition of Macomb Township's German roots, we bring you the German Word of the Day: Autobahn, meaning highway, is a noun pronounced [ow-toe-bah-n].
