It's been almost two years since film crews descended on Macomb County to film Family Weekend, but rumor has it the comedy starring Kristin Chenoweth, Matthew Modine, Shirley Jones, Oleysa Rulin and a cast of Macomb County extras will hit theaters in February 2013, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The film features Rulin as a 16-year-old jump-roping champ who takes her dysfunctional parents hostage in an effort to transform them into an actual family.

On Feb. 12, 2011, Macomb Patch editor Jenny Whalen joined more than 70 extras – including Dakota High School alumna Alyssa Vanderziel – to film a variety of scenes at Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores. A peek at the trailer (briefly leaked to the Internet) suggests at least two of the scenes filmed that day made it into the film.

Family Weekend premiered at the 2012 Cockatoo Island Film Festival, but was re-titled Queen Freak for its appearances at the Cannes and Canberra film festivals.
