Movie Release Date Set for Kristin Chenoweth Movie Filmed in Macomb County

The motion picture 'Family Weekend' was filmed in Macomb County in February 2011.

Macomb County's time on the silver screen in the movie Family Weekend will come later this month.

The film, which was filmed at Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores and other locations throughout the county, will open March 29 in Detroit, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas, according to the movie's website. The Detroit location is listed as MJR Marketplace Cinema on Van Dyke in Sterling Heights.

However, those with Comcast cable, Time Warner cable, DIRECTV or Dish video on demand can catch the movie right now. It will also be digitally available starting April 23 through Amazon, iTunes, VUDU, Verizon and AT&T.

On Feb. 12, 2011, Macomb Patch editor Jenny Whalen joined more than 70 extras – including Dakota alumna Alyssa Vanderziel – to film a variety of scenes at Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores. A peek at the trailer (briefly leaked to the Internet) suggests at least two of the scenes filmed that day made it into the film.

The film features Rulin as a 16-year-old jump-roping champ who takes her dysfunctional parents hostage in an effort to transform them into an actual family.

Family Weekend premiered at the 2012 Cockatoo Island Film Festival, but was re-titled Queen Freak for its appearances at the Cannes and Canberra film festivals.
