Hungry Howie's Goes Pink for Breast Cancer

Macomb Township's store will deliver pizza in pink boxes throughout the month of October, with a portion of each purchase benefiting the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The pink pizza box is back.

Now in its fourth year, Hungry Howie’s "Love, Hope & Pizza" campaign is once again raising money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.

“The Love, Hope & Pizza campaign is what we’ve been known for in the franchising industry for the last several years,” said Macomb Township Hungry Howie’s owner Robert Leger. “Every person is affected in some way (by cancer). It’s a great cause that Hungry Howie’s has been a part of and our customers are backing it more and more.”

For every pizza purchased during the month of October, Hungry Howie’s will make a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. In the last three years, Hungry Howie’s has raised almost $500,000 for the foundation. This year, the goal is to add another $250,000 to that total.

“Sales have been very good in the last three years,” said Leger, who owns the store at Romeo Plank and 23 Mile. “Every year the awareness and customer count and money we’ve been able to give back has increased. We’re all trying to fight against breast cancer and we’re happy to be a part of this campaign.”

Throughout October, participating Hungry Howie’s locations will serve pizzas in bright pink boxes featuring the breast cancer awareness ribbon. Customers can add a $1 donation to their Hungry Howie’s order, which will go directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Donors will receive a pink Love, Hope & Pizza wristband bracelet as a token of appreciation.

Hungry Howie’s Facebook fans can also make a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation through the company’s Facebook page. The brand will make a donation to the foundation for every new Facebook fan, every breast cancer story fans share on the Hungry Howie’s Facebook page, and every tweet using the hashtag #lovehopepizza. The company will also be giving out free pizzas via social media on three days in October.

“Everyone is taking a bigger and bigger part each year to make the campaign more,” Leger said. “You’ll see the pink boxes at the curb on garbage day and our employees are all wearing buttons and shirts to support breast cancer awareness. It’s a good cause.

Inspired by its flavored crust pizza, Hungry Howie’s has adopted the tag line, “Hope comes in many flavors” in support of this year’s campaign.

The Macomb Township Hungry Howie's is located at 51074 Romeo Plank Rd.
