Bites Nearby: Maceri's Soup and Scoop

When one day feels like summer and the next like winter, a soup and scoop dining destination covers both of Michigan's weather extremes.

With temperatures fluctuating from 80 degrees one day to 45 the next, Michigan is making it hard to pin down the days ripe for ice cream and those better suited for soup.

However, at these two favorite comfort foods are offered all day, every day, so instead of the weather dictating your meal choice, you can go with your craving instead.

Greatest Dish Ever: Chocolate cake waffle with vanilla ice cream, chocolate and caramel sauce.
Don't Miss: The soup! There's more than 200 varieties.
The Vibe: Clean, comfortable, and classic.
Cool Factor: Lori Maceri has been selling soup and sandwiches for more than 25 years.

Overview: There is nothing pretentious about Soup and Scoop. Place your order at the counter similar to a fast food restaurant. This is not fast food, however. Sandwiches are handmade and the soups are from scratch.

Decor: Clean and simple. Orders are placed at the counter. There are three or four booths and a few tables, but this is primarily a carryout restaurant.

The Drinks: With such a large selection of ice cream, the milkshake possibilities are endless.

Soups: With more than 200 varieties, Lori has a lot in her arsenal to offer. With 8-10 soups being offered on a day-to-day basis, there is plenty of choice. Polish Dill Pickle and Stracciatella are two can't miss options.

Sandwiches: Soup and Scoop uses only the freshest ingredients in their sandwiches. Subs, pitas and pretzel sandwiches are available. The Italian sub is classic in its composition. Salami, ham, provolone, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers and Italian dressing are all stuffed into a soft Italian roll.

Desserts: Maceri reminisces about her childhood and being treated to waffles topped with ice cream. The chocolate cake waffle is ridiculously decadent. A crusty exterior and a fluffy cakey chocolatey interior, the waffle is good for breakfast, but is transcedant for dessert.

Service: Counter service. Maceri loves to chat with her customers.

Signature Dish: Soup!
