Bites Nearby: Majesta Grille

Open for less than three weeks, Majesta Grille has brought elegant Middle Eastern cuisine to Macomb Township.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Macomb Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

Majesta Grille

Overview: Brand new to the neighborhood, Majesta Grille is offering elegant and quality service in the space previously occupied by Village Tavernas.

Decor: The interior has been totally renovated. A new marble fountain is the focal point of the dining room. Elegant without being pretentious, the dining room is well lit. Tables have white tablecloths. A small banquet room is also available for rent.

Drinks: Full bar is available. Plenty of flavored vodkas and draft beers for your drinking pleasure. Smoothies and raw fruit juices are offered as well.

Appetizers: Fresh-baked bread is included with all appetizers. All traditional items are present: hummus ($4.49), baba ganoush ($4.99), and taboule ($4.99 for a small) are all made fresh daily. Hot appetizers like falafel ($7.49) and grape leaves ($6.99) are expected. Coconut shrimp ($10.99) and balsamic mushroom ($6.99) stray from the usual.

Sandwiches: Chicken shawarma ($5.99), beef shawarma ($6.99) and falafel ($4.99) are just a sampling of the available sandwiches. Each sandwich is served with three homemade sauces: garlic, tomato and tahini. Adding fries and soup or salad is an additional $2.99.

Entrees: Majesta veers from tradition here in name, but much of the food is the same. Kubba is another name for kibbeh. Majesta's version is extra-lean ground beef instead of lamb. Mosul kubba is similar to baked kibbeh in that it is layered, but rather than being baked it is fried or boiled.

Quesadillas (starting at $8.49) are served with salad, sour cream and nachos. An odd addition to a Middle Eastern menu, they are filled with beef, chicken or shrimp and veggies.

Iron Pans are similar to ghallaba. Staring at $10.49, veggies or meat and veggies are cooked in soy- and wine-based sauces.  Served with rice or fries and a garden salad.

Lamb chops, salmon, various kebabs and shawarma plates are also available.

Dessert: Kunaffa ($3.99)  is a traditional Middle Eastern dessert similar to shredded wheat. Drizzled with floral syrup with a layer of Nabulsi cheese, this is a sweet and creamy dessert.

Don't Miss: Beef Tenderloin Iron Pan ($16.99) is an intriguing mix of beef, vegetables and a red wine soy sauce.
