Grab your boogie shoes, party peeps. Saturday night marks the opportunity to party one last time under the huge disco ball at Club 22 in Shelby Township. As of 2 a.m., the legendary club is closing its doors, but only temporarily.
We'll get to that in a moment. Let's talk about the party at hand.
Dino Ciccarelli, iconic club owner, former NHL great and current Hockey Hall of Famer, is celebrating both his birthday and "Last Call" of Club 22's nightlife on Saturday, Feb. 12, starting at 8 p.m. and proceeding with panache and lots of partitude until the wee hours of the morning.
"It's been what? 4? 5 years? I think it's been great," states Ciccarelli. "Over the years it's been a lot of fun. People have met here, got married. We've had national acts like Kei$ha, Flo Rida, Taio Cruz and so many more. We've provided fun and dancing for thousands and thousands of people over all these years. We love that."
"It's the last chance to relive the great times you've had on the dance floor," encourages resident DJ Lenny B (aka Lenny Baldwin). "We're expecting well over a few hundred of our closest friends, fans and followers, not to mention that when Dino throws a party, a lot of local celebs come out. We don't expect 'Dino-Rama' to be any different."
So far there will be no cover, $3 bottles of beer and a ton of drink specials. More than likely there will be a bodacious birthday cake for the man of the hour.
But what's to come of the massive space at 21 Mile Road and Hayes? Oh, Dino does design, too.
"I've seen sports bars and concepts all over the world. I feel I'm going to have something no one else is going to have. Great product, great food and great service is what we hope to achieve," Ciccarelli informs us. "We'll have a bit of a Vegas feel, and it's going to be all about new technology in high-definition. We definitely won't be your typical sports bar. We're talking Hall of Fame expectations."
Some of the future follies are under wraps, but what we can tell you is to expect the most amazing sports bar in Macomb County. A full “revamption” is planned to bring the new joint into a seven day a week hot spot with a full kitchen to produce what will surely be top-notch nosh, walls of HDTVs, high top step-up-into tables and benches with individual TVs and lighting, a brick pizza oven, state-of-the-art projection and sound ... these are just a few of the teasers we can offer for now.
"Picture the coolest, bad ass-ist, most amazing sports bar and that's what we're bringing in," brags Baldwin.
There will be entertainment three nights a week, lots of unique events and tons of sports viewing parties scheduled once remodeling is complete. So when is that?
"We'll do what we need to do to get it done right and in a timely manner. I love the Shelby area. This will be THE place for the four main sports viewing," Ciccarelli tells us. And then some.
