Great Escape: Take a Skate Break

This great escape to Suburban Ice Macomb will cost less than a gallon of gas.

While a trip to a more exotic locale may be preferred, a great escape can be made even a few minutes from home. This week's escape takes us to .

Ice-skating may not normally be classified as a spring sport, but with the help of an indoor rink, it is an activity that can be enjoyed year round. It is also an excellent form of exercise to help you continue on that path to the legendary Spring Break bod. So long as you are using your own momentum–and not the side of the rink–to propel yourself, you can burn an estimated 300-500 calories (depending on weight) in one hour of exercise, according to NutriStrategy calculations. And these calculations are assuming you are skating at less than 9 mph!

The best part? This escape will cost less than the gallon of gas it took to get there. Monday through Friday, Suburban Ice Macomb hosts an open skate from noon-1:50 p.m. Admission is $3 and skate rental is $2.
