Hard cash for my trick-or-treat stash? Keep talking.

On Nov. 3, from 2-6 p.m., will host a Halloween Candy Buy Back at its office at 48801 Romeo Plank Road in Macomb Township.

“As an active member of the Macomb community as not only an orthodontist, but also as a resident, I have always appreciated the feeling of family and friendship that resonates here," said Dr. Mark Bieszki, in a prepared statement. "Halloween is a time that brings that feeling to the forefront. However (fun as it is) the quantity of candy and sweets collected during this time, far exceeds the level recommended for good physical and dental health."

In fact, global sugar consumption for children is currently about 50 million tons per year and increasing about 2 percent annually, Bieszki said.

With that in mind, Bieszki is awarding his orthodontic patients, and anyone from the community who wishes to join in, $1 for every pound of candy they bring in to donate.

At the end of the collection, all candy will be sent to U.S. troops overseas.

"Our candy buyback program not only provides a way to honor those who have chosen to make such a large sacrifice for our country, it is teaching our kids the rewards of random acts of kindness and generosity," Bieszki said, in a prepared statement. "And a reminder to our patients that many of those treats will damage the orthodontic appliances in their mouth is an added bonus.”
