NOW OPEN: Gigi’s Cupcakes Macomb Swirls into Hall Road Shop

Macomb Township's newest cupcake store, located on Hall Road, just west of Romeo Plank, opens at 9 a.m. today.

Attention Hall Road drivers, it’s sugar rush hour in Macomb.

After weeks of teasing Facebook followers with mouth-watering photos of its more than 30 spring and summer cupcake flavors, Gigi’s Cupcakes will open the doors at its Macomb Township location today.

Tucked between and on Hall Road just west of Romeo Plank, this shop is the national cupcake company's first Michigan location.

“I think Macomb County in general has a lot to offer,” said Stephanie Flowney, a friend of Gigi’s Macomb owners, Nicole and David Gonzalez. “Just looking at (the county’s) business structure and who’s here, it’s a prime location for this and any other type of business. It’s a booming, growing area. Being in Michigan, too, it’s exciting to be part of an economy that is on the upswing.”

Gigi’s Cupcakes Macomb, located at 18353 Hall Road, will open at 9 a.m. Thursday and feature 12 cupcakes from the 2012 spring and summer menu, including Kentucky Bourbon Pie, Scarlett’s Red Velvet, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Peanut Butter Cup.

While some of these flavors are offered daily, each day of the week will feature its own collection of signature cupcakes.

“Every day is a different type of cupcake,” Flowney said. “We get our Tuesday fans, or our Friday fans who come in for the cake they want and maybe try something new, too. (The menu is) ever changing to keep it exciting.”

While the spring and summer menu features 35 cupcake flavors, a fall and winter menu offers even more, with some 50 different varieties rotated throughout the year.

“That’s what makes Gigi’s stand out in this community,” Flowney said. “It is a from-scratch cake, made fresh every day, with fresh ingredients right here in the store.”

For Macomb owner Nicole Gonzalez, this was reason enough to bring the Gigi’s brand to Michigan.

“They taste as good as they look and that was a big thing for us,” she said.

Although both Nicole and her husband live in Dearborn, the former is a native of Sterling Heights and said she will always consider Macomb County home–a feeling she hopes her customers will share for Gigi’s.

“I want this to be a happy place,” she said.

“People don’t come in here grumpy or upset and they love the product, so it’s a win-win,” added Flowney.

Gigi’s Cupcakes Macomb is open Monday though Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and closed Sundays. Cupcakes are $3 each, or buy 12 and get the 13th free.

In addition to its regular menu, Gigi’s takes special orders and customizes cupcakes for events such as weddings or graduations. To inquire about custom orders, call 586-416-4444.
