Patch Picks: St. Patrick's Day

Almost every restaurant and bar in the area will be offering some St. Patrick's Day specials, but here are five with a little something extra.

St. Patrick's Day is almost here, and the search is on for the best food, drinks and deals around town to celebrate the holiday.

Almost every restaurant and bar from here to the Emerald Isle itself is offering food and drink specials, but we've found five that are offering ye a wee bit more than green pints.

1. Cheli's Chili Bar 41240 Hayes Rd., Clinton Township.

The party starts at 8 a.m. with an Irish Breakfast Buffet and continues throughout the night with two live bands and bagpipes and drums. A "Best Irish Costume Contest" will award three lucky lads or lasses with $100, $50 and $25 gift cards. Those who truly wish to show their pride can visit the Irish Ink Tattoo and Shooter Parlor. More entertainment, food and drink specials will continue throughout the day. Visit the Cheli's Facebook page for a special voucher with a $5.99 buy-one-get-one-free deal on the breakfast buffet.

2. 17757 Hall Rd., Macomb Township.

From $2.50 20-ounce green drafts to $5 Patty's Day shots, Brann's is offering lots of drink and food specials in addition to its regular Thursday deals. A corned beef and cabbage dinner is $9.79 and Black Magic 20-ounce drafts are $4.99. Wings are also 50 cents all day.

3. Dooley's Tavern, 12414 Hall Rd, Sterling Heights.

Macomb Patch will be joining the Dooley's bash in the morning to spread the word about Patch and update photos of the festivities in real time to the website. Radio station 89X will host a wedding at the tavern at 7 a.m. and more than 5,000 people are expected to pass through the tavern's 5,000-square-foot beer tent. Shuttle buses will go between all three Dooley's locations all day long and Irish fare will be plentiful. There will also be live Irish music, bagpipe artists, Bernie the Leprechaun and loads of free beads, T-shirts and prizes.

4. , 46712 Hayes Rd., Macomb Township.

Known for its Made-in-Michigan fare, Wildwood will add several Irish items to its menu to celebrate St. Patty's. Irish stew, corned beef brisket and carrots and mile-high Reubens will join Guinness, Smithwicks, Irish coffee, tea and Nutty Irishman cocktails. Happy hour is 3-6 p.m.

5. Sherwood Brewing Company, 45689 Hayes Rd., Shelby Township.

The Keggs and Eggs breakfast runs from 9-11:30 a.m. with live Celtic music accompaniment. Beers are $1 off during O'Hoppy Hour from 3-6 p.m. and live music by Alan Cay begins at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. there is a Whiskey South release and if you're feeling a bit 'o' the blarney, you can try your hand at the Limerick contest at 9 p.m.

Be advised, many of these bars will have a cover charge.
