Patch's Summer Milk Shake Tour: Maceri's Soup & Scoop

Patch takes the tour to the border of Macomb and Shelby townships to test out the scoop end of Maceri's Soup and Scoop.

If you feel the summer heat creep up on you this Independence Day weekend, cool down with an old-fashioned shake from Maceri's Soup and Scoop, the latest stop on the Patch Summer Milk Shake Tour.

I, Macomb Patch Editor Jenny Whalen, have been throwing caution–and waistline–to the wind for weeks to identify the creamiest, frothiest and most flavorful shakes made around town.

A note on how these shakes are rated: Presentation, Froth Factor, Toppings and Mmm (which judges the shake on a scale of 1-Quite satisfying, 2-Yum ..., 3-You're welcome taste buds, 4-Let's do that again! and 5-Holy shakes, Batman!).

Shake: Mint chocolate chip. Made with Ashby's hand-dipped ice cream and 2 percent milk, this shake is super creamy and the chocolate bits melt instantly in your mouth.

Presentation: Served in a clear, plastic cup, this shake is simple, but chic.

Froth Factor: This shake froths almost from the first moment you wrap your hands around the glass. The chocolate chips stick to the sides of the glass and begin to melt while the mint ice cream foams from top to bottom.

Toppings: A tower of whipped cream. The cream comes from a can, but then, don't all good things?

Mmm: 4-Let's do that again! It's not the flavor (though the mint is excellent), but the consistency that makes this shake. It's thick and creamy, but you don't turn blue trying to sip the frothy goodness through a straw. It's a fantastic blend of cold and cream and available in about 50 flavors.

These shakes come in small and large sizes, but the small, at $4.49 could easily be shared.
