Tim Hortons and Dunkin' Donuts are offering free doughnuts June 1 to mark National Donut Day, the unofficial holiday celebrating the popular treat.

, the popular doughnut and coffee chain, is offering a printable coupon through its Facebook page for a free doughnut with any other purchase. will mark the day by giving out a free doughnut — customer's choice — with the purchase of any beverage, according to a news release from the company.
National Donut Day, celebrated the first Friday of June each year, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I, according to a news release from Dunkin' Donuts.
