Today is National Hot Dog Day! What Are Your Favorite Toppings?

For no apparent reason, July 23 is National Hot Dog Day and we think the best way to celebrate is by buying a Coney dog from one of Macomb Township's local restaurants.

It's origins may be German, but the hot dog is all American and today we celebrate that product without which there would be no Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.

No one really knows the how or why, but July 23 is National Hot Dog Day and with Americans consuming around 20 billion hot dogs a year, according to the The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council, it's no wonder this ballpark favorite has a day all its own.

Join in today's celebrations – and support a local business – by buying one of Michigan's famous Coney dogs from a Macomb Township restaurant:

Readers have nominated both Coney Grille and Leo's Coney Island for a 2012 Readers' Choice Award.

Mustard, pickles, chili ... anchovies? What are your favorite hot dog toppings?
