Walsh College announces additions to its team of full-time faculty members. Maria Gistinger, Ph.D., transitioned from an adjunct professor to a full-time professor of accounting; Terri Washburn, Ph.D., moved to a new position as a full-time professor of business information technology; and Richard Chasdi, Ph.D., joined Walsh as a full-time associate professor of management. The College also welcomes back professor of information technology Barbara Ciaramitaro, Ph.D.
Dr. Gistinger has been with Walsh College as an adjunct professor in the accounting and tax department for the past seven years. She teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting, accounting communications, international accounting, ethics, and governmental and not-for-profit accounting.
Dr. Gistinger has an extensive background in public school finance. Her doctoral dissertation titled, “Michigan Schools Reaction to Budgetary Distress,” focused on ways that public schools were adapting to fiscal crisis. She is the Assistant Superintendent for Finance at Brighton Area Schools and has held similar positions at Iosco RESA, Birmingham Public Schools, Oak Park Schools, and East Lansing Schools.
Dr. Gistinger earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in 2009, and her M.Ed. and BA in accounting from Saginaw Valley State University. In 1994, she became licensed as a Certified Public Accountant and also received a Chief Business Official Certification from the State of Michigan.
Dr. Washburn has transitioned into her position as professor of business Information Technology from her previous position as Assistant Vice President and Dean of Academic Technology and head of the Division of Online Learning. She has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at Walsh for more than eight years.
Before coming to Walsh, Dr. Washburn spent more than 20 years in Information Technology where her responsibilities ranged from programmer to systems analyst, project manager, and multinational application manager, directing the efforts of a team of developers in Michigan as well as in Chennai, India.
Dr. Chasdi joins the Walsh College faculty after years of teaching at both Wayne State University and the University of Windsor. At Walsh, Dr. Chasdi teaches International Security, International Business Management, Culture and Doing Business in the Middle East, and an undergraduate course in Public Administration.
Dr. Chasdi is an internationally recognized specialist in terrorism and counter-terrorism studies and his research interests include multinational corporations’ security in an increasingly globalized world. He has a long and distinguished career in consulting and international problem solving in the security arena, particularly in international conflict resolution and mediation.
Dr. Chasdi earned his B.A. from Brandeis University, his M.A. from Boston College, and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in Political Science.
Dr. Barbara Ciaramitaro returns to Walsh from Ferris State University. Dr. Ciaramitaro served in a variety of capacities at Ferris State University including Program Champion and Coordinator, andInformation Security & Intelligence. Her areas of knowledge include Computer Information Systems, Information Security & Intelligence, Information Systems Management, and Project Management and she has a broad portfolio of intellectual contributions.
Dr. Ciaramitaro holds a B.A. in Psychology, an M.S. in Software Engineering Administration, and a Ph.D. in Information Systems. She also holds certifications in Project Management (PMP), Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) and has secured four patents while employed at General Motors.
