Walsh College Board of Trustees Appoints Scott Rice to Foundation Board of Directors

The Walsh College Board of Trustees has elected Scott Rice to a three-year team on the Walsh College Foundation Board of Directors.

Rice is the chief operating officer at Powerlink, a Detroit-based staffing, facilities management, and construction company. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration at Walsh College in 2004 and joined Link 2 Technologies in March 2003.  Rice helped founder Link Howard launch Powerlink in August 2003.

Starting with just one customer and 20 employees, Powerlink has grown to more than 500 employees working at health care, education, manufacturing, and utility facilities in the Midwest.  Rice has had responsibilities for every facet of the operation, from sales and marketing to operations.

He had previously succeeded in turning around two plastic injection molding plants in the automotive and consumer products industries.

His honors have included recognition as Crain’s Detroit Business’ “40-Under-40” and dBusiness’ “Thirty in Their 30’s,” both in 2012.  Since 2010, he has been chair, board of directors, for Winning Futures, an award-winning, nonprofit organization.  It offers school-based mentoring programs and workshops for middle- and high-school students in southeast Michigan.

Rice’s professional associations include the International Facility Management Association, Entrepreneurs Organization (EO) and the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City.

He was co-chair of the 2014 Walsh College Wine Gala, a fundraiser for student scholarships, and is a member of the College’s Golf Classic committee.

Established in 2004, the Walsh College Foundation serves as the official fundraising arm of the College.  The Foundation encourages private giving and ensures the integrity of the College’s philanthropy program.  It is staffed by employees of the College and led by volunteers who are business, industry, and community leaders.  Walsh alumni comprise 62 percent of the
26-member Foundation Board of Directors.
