Walsh College Confers Doctor of Management Degree on Rishi

Walsh College will award a Doctor of Management degree in Executive Leadership to Sanjay Rishi at the College’s 103rd Commencement on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Zion Christian Church, Troy.

Dr. Rishi’s doctoral dissertation explored intra-organizational communication in the context of organizational transformations. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in engineering management from the Florida Institute of Technology.

According to Dr. Rishi’s study, intra-organizational communication enables transformational success. It shapes beliefs into action. Cultural barriers to organizational transformation, when addressed effectively and efficiently, create trust. Otherwise, organizations risk failure.

The advent of digital and social technologies and the democratization of media have disrupted well-established processes, the study reported. Cultural and emotional behavioral shifts mandate a thoughtful blending of long-proven, intra-organizational communication modes with emerging avenues of organizational dialog.

“Dr. Rishi’s work has added substantially to the knowledge base in the subject of business communication, a growing area of emphasis at Walsh College and among business employers,” said Dr. Linda Hagan, director, Doctor of Management Program, and chair and professor, Business Communication.

Dr. Rishi has more than 25 years of progressive consulting and industry experience. He is vice president and managing partner, IBM, Cloud Consulting Services. In this role, Dr. Rishi leads a global team focused on helping clients harness cloud computing technologies to drive business innovation.

Previously, Dr. Rishi served as partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers; vice president and global automotive industry leader, IBM; vice president, Global Strategy, IBM, and CIO and group vice president – Information Technology and Strategic Planning, Johnson Controls Automotive.

His dissertation advisory committee at Walsh included Dr. Sheila Ronis, chair and professor, Management; Dr. Marla Scafe, professor, Management; and Dr. Jenny Tatsak, professor, Business Communication.
