Walsh College Creates Rinkus Scholarship for Military Veterans

Walsh College has created the Walter P. Rinkus Memorial Scholarship for Veterans, its first student scholarship designated specifically for U.S. Armed Forces veterans.

Mike and Judy Rinkus established the scholarship in honor of Walter P. Rinkus, Mike’s father. Mike Rinkus, a veteran himself, is associate professor, Finance, at Walsh College and is former senior vice president and group manager, international trade finance, at Comerica Bank.  Judy Rinkus is senior vice president, Bank of America.

“We’re proud to support and recognize America’s veterans with this important scholarship and appreciate the Rinkus’ generosity,” said Stephanie Bergeron, president and CEO, Walsh College.  “Veterans bring unique viewpoints, skills, and perspective to the classroom.  We hope this scholarship will encourage their pursuit of a business education here at Walsh.”

Walter P. Rinkus enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II.  He later participated in Pacific campaigns and the invasion of Okinawa, Japan, as a combat engineer.  The scholarship honors his legacy and commitment to education and his values of hard work, honesty, and integrity.

Walsh received recognition earlier this year from Military Times magazine as one of 64 select national institutions ranked as a “Best for Vets Business College” which provide high levels of service for active duty and veteran military men and women.  The selection process considered the school’s culture, student support, academic outcomes and quality, academic policies, and cost.

Donors to Walsh College have several scholarship-giving options available, including named endowed, named annual, student hardship, and general fund scholarships.
