WALSH COLLEGE HR SUMMIT ATTRACTS 150 AREA PROFESSIONALS

Employment claims reduction, workplace bullying, and health care reform were among a host of human resources (HR) issues and topics discussed at the Fifth Annual HR Summit held recently at Walsh College.

 

More than 150 area human resource professionals attended the day-long event, recognizing the growing importance of the human resources function to business success.  Strategic HR is an integral component of the Walsh College management curriculum and the College’s continuing education initiatives through its Walsh Institute.

Other HR issues discussed by conferees included 401k plans, emotional intelligence, employee training, recruiting, immigration, performance culture, and retirement plans.

Co-chairs of the Summit were Rebecca Davies, employment attorney and shareholder, Butzel Long, and Tina Marie Wohlfield, HR and compliance manager, Benefit Review Services, Inc., Walsh College alumna (MBA, ’04), and adjunct assistant professor.

 

Both are veteran professionals in the HR function and frequent speakers on HR topics.  They also served as keynote speakers at the Summit, along with Dr. Lee Meadows, professor, Management, at Walsh.

 

“Participation at this year’s Summit is testimony to the growth and importance of human resource management in business,” Meadows noted. “It also points to the respect and confidence shown in HR professionals by their companies and firms.”

 

Walsh offers an HR specialization in its Master of Business Administration and Master of Management programs, as well as a graduate certificate in HR.  Outside the degree programs, Walsh offers monthly HR peer group meetings and classes to prepare for HR professional certification through the Walsh Institute.
