10 Years Later Remember 9/11, Celebrate Patriot Week
Sunday, Sept. 11, was a day to remember the tragedy that occurred a decade ago. This week is to celebrate the spirit of America that has endured despite the anger and sadness of the past.
Yesterday was devoted to the memory of those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 attacks. Today, and every day this week, will be dedicated to celebrating the enduring spirit of America, a spirit only strengthened through the tragic events of 10 years ago.
Anchored between two key dates in American history—the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 and the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17—Patriot Week was created in 2009. This year, Macomb County officials have proclaimed Sept. 11-17 Patriot Week throughout the county.
“It is important to be reminded of the principles our nation was founded upon,” said Kathy D. Vosburg, board of commissioners chair, in a press release about the holiday. “I hope residents get involved in some way, whether it is organizing an event in their own community, or attending activities sponsored throughout the county.”

- Patch talks with local members of the clergy, learning how these men and women of faith explained the events of Sept. 11 to their congregations and how the events affected their own beliefs.
