SCHEDULE: Anton Art Center's 30th Art Fair in Mount Clemens, Carnival

The fair will open June 3-5 and art fair events will be held throughout downtown Mount Clemens.

For those disappointed by the cancellation of the Downtown Mount Clemens Mother's Day Art & Craft Show, the Anton Art Center's 30th annual art fair, scheduled June 3-5, should make up for the loss.

Visitors will be able to view displays from local artists and art clubs as well as performances every night, which include Mount Clemens' own Tone & Niche, a drumming workshop given by Mark Stone, Satori Circus with face-painted T-shirts, a compilation of America’s Best Show Tunes given by All The World’s A Stage, and a crowd favorite, Detroit Flyhouse aerial yoga.

Admission to the fair is free.

Anton Art Center Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Callans is an enthusiastic supporter of the art fair.

“We do this mainly to help artists get exposure and get their art out, but it also helps out the business community as well," she said. "There’s something here for everyone, whether you come by yourself or with your family."

The Lakeside Palette Club, a local nonprofit art club, is one of the various sponsors for the event. President Tom Joseph explained how they got involved, and what visitors can expect from them.

“The Anton Art Center approached us on helping them receive a grant for the fair, and we went from there," he said. "Some of our artists may have tents set up around the fair, but our club will have a kids' tent where kids can get hands on and we can show them how to draw, paint and do collages."

For those with a musical taste as well as artistic, the wide variety of performances is meant to appeal to everyone. Lou Fazzini, executive director of All The World’s A Stage, a theater arts education group focusing on kids ages 12- 16, said their kids took it upon themselves to put together a great show for art fair visitors.

“I made a deal with them that they could put together a compilation, since I didn’t have time to put it together," he said. "I gave them two weeks and met up with them last Saturday and they had decided on their songs. There’s something for everyone; there’s songs from Broadway like from Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof, and also some family-friendly ones from The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, and the kids are excited to perform.”

The fair will end the night with a bang, literally. For the first time in the fair’s history there will be a fireworks display at the end of the night on Friday, June 3, at approximately 10 p.m.

Other attractions taking place in Mount Clemens the same weekend include a carnival hosted by the Mount Clemens Lions Club and the 20th annual Bud Light Car Cruise on Saturday, June 4. So whether it be the pull of the arts, or the family-friendly performances that bring you to downtown Mount Clemens June 3-5, the Anton Art Center has made certain that there is something to intrigue and satisfy everyone.
