Update: All-Clear Given for Atwood Elementary School

Earlier this morning the school went into lockdown as the Sheriff's Department searched the surrounding for home invasion suspect or suspects.

Atwood Elementary School officials have given the all clear and discontinued the lockdown ordered early this morning.

on North Avenue Road was put on lockdown this morning while Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies investigated an attempted home invasion nearby.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said deputies in the area are searching for a suspect or suspects involved in an attempted home invasion this morning. They would not confirm any other details at this time.

The nearby search prompted school officials to put Atwood on lockdown.

"We were advised of a break-in in the area and the lockdown is a precautionary measure until the concern is over," said Michelle Irwin, L'Anse Creuse senior director for community relations and programs.

Irwin said all entrances to the school were locked and no one was allowed to enter or leave the building during the lockdown.

"School continues inside as usual, only no one can come in the building," Irwin said. "We will continue to evaluate the situation as more information is given (from authorities)."
