Five Things to Know Today

Giving you five things to keep in mind as you go through your Thursday motions.

You may not need to know the story of how Uncle Lionel got those teeth marks on his neck, but rest assured, knowing these five things won't blind your mind's eye:

  1. The good news is there is a high near 65. The bad news is there is an 80 percent change of precipitation, which means showers and possibly a thunderstorm all day long and into the night, according to the National Weather Service. You might want to trade in your Escalade for a kayak.
  2. In recognition of Macomb Township's German roots, we bring you the German Word of the Day: sammeln, which means to collect, is a verb pronounced [zahmln].
  3. Congratulations to the Cougars and their parents participating in Honors Night at 7 p.m. in the Dakota auditorium. Numerous scholarships will be awarded, including the first Henry Chiodini Scholarship to Blake Ryan, a Dakota cross country and track athlete.
  4. On this day in 1938, the House Committee on Un-American Activities began its work of searching for subversives in the United States. Fancy a bit of Red Herring with your stroganoff comrade?
  5. Whether you've already started Memorial Day weekend, or still have a few hours to go before you can break for vacay, here's a list of what's closed around town to save you a trip.
