Get Out: Herbs, Opera and 80s

It's the end of the week. You're bored. You want something to do. You've come to the right place.

For most of us, by the time we've made it through the chaos that was our week, we find we have neither the time nor the energy to make any plans for the weekend.

We're here to help. Both within Macomb Township and not too far outside, we've found several activities that can be enjoyed with friends, family or solo. Your paycheck won't be worse for wear either.

Where/When: Wildwood Friendly Tavern; Thursday, March 3, at 6 p.m.
Why Go: This one is geared toward the ladies, with special vendors (candles, cosmetics and jewelry, oh my!), martini menu, raffles and drawings.
Pricing: Varies.

Where/When: Macomb Center for the Performing Arts; through April 13.
Why Go: Check out the art of Deborah Orloff and Eric Troffkin in a show titled, "Puzzles of Expectation."
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: Palazzo Grande; Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m.
Why Go: This event raises money for St. Peter Lutheran Church and School programs and equipment. You'll enjoy dinner, open bar, entertainment, silent and live auctions, and music.
Pricing: $55 per person.

Where/When: All English Gardens locations; Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m.
Why Go: Surely you must be thinking spring after all the snow, so why not enjoy this seminar and learn the ABCs of Growing Herbs? They're easy to grow, hearty and you can enjoy seasoning soups, salads and suppers with the fruits of your labor. This class will get you going on your growing.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: Mount Clemens Elks, Saturday, March 5, at 5:30 p.m.
Why Go: If you're feeling nostalgic or retro, this is a way to enjoy some 80s fun. Think slam-dancing, leg warmers, preppy style, New Wave, Madonna, Prince, Duran Duran and more. Eric DeLuca and That 80s Band will provide the soundtrack, and there will be dinner, cash bar and a chance to buy into raffle draws.
Pricing: $20 in advance gets you chicken and pasta for dinner, plus entry into the party. $10 at the door gets you into the party, but no dinner.

Where/When: The Macomb Center for Performing Arts; Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m.
Why Go: It's your chance for a touch of the Met close to home: Jennifer Johnson, an American mezzo-soprano who has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, will be at the Macomb Center this weekend. You'll hear her beautiful, award-winning singing, without having to pay Met prices.
Pricing: $10 in advance; $12 at the door.
