Grab & Go Kids Planner: Frog Calls, Flower Power and Reel Deals

Earth Day must be getting close, because this week will be a great one for flexing green thumbs.

Spring Break is still a week away for many local families, so until you can distract the kids with Mickey Mouse and Harry Potter, we have the Grab & Go Kids Planner to keep your brood busy.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK


Where/When: Octagon House, 57500 Van Dyke, Washington Township, 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 2.
Why Go: Want to add some beautiful, hearty blooms to your garden this summer? Think wildflowers! Michigan State University Extension presents local renowned speaker Cheryl English, who will reveal how they can beautify your yard and provide an attractive and beneficial environment for local wildlife, too.

Where/When: MJR Digital Cinemas (at Partridge Creek), Saturday and Sunday, various times.
Why Go: Check out the free Children's Spring Film Festival at area MJR Digital Cinemas. Come to Partridge Creek April 2-3, where the flick pick is "Megamind."
Pricing: Free for kids 12 and under—until theater capacity is reached—and $1 for adults. Show times will be released after March 29.


Where/When: Gibraltar Trade Center, April 1-3.
Why Go: Enjoy sports memorabilia and browse tables jammed with sports cards, action figures, collectibles and more. Plus there are always special guests, including Pistons star Dennis Rodman (April 2, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.) and hockey greats Claude Lemieux and Darren McCarty (April 2, 2-4 p.m.) will be in-house this week. (Pricing varies for autographs: Click here for details.) There is also an antiques and collectibles show going on at the same time, where you can shop jewelry, pottery, dolls and more.
Pricing: $2 to get into Gibraltar.

Where/When: Wolcott Mill Farm Center, 1 p.m. Sunday, April 3.
Why Go: Bring the kids to the farm center for some "Greenhouse Fun." They'll get good and dirty while planting seeds and plants, plus learn some basic plant care. After they're all done, they can take home their potted/seeded projects and enjoy watching them grow.
Pricing: $5 per child. Call 586-752-5932 to register.


Where/When:, 11 a.m. Monday, April 4.
Why Go: Kids will have a blast at the Nature Center where they'll enjoy Funny Frog Faces by making frog masks, learning frog calls, hearing frog songs and meeting a frog or two.
