Happening This Week: Country Fairs, Cruises and Air Shows

Whether you seek fun by air, land or sea, we've got your week's activities covered.

ARMADA FAIR
Where/When: The Armada Agricultural Society, 74280 Fair St., Armada; daily, Aug. 15-21.
Why Go: Enjoy all the fun the Armada Fair has to offer, with animal judging and displays, a petting zoo, live music (Steel Magnolia performs at 8 p.m. Friday), carnival, festival foods, beer tent, eating contests, monster trucks (7 p.m. Tuesday), demolition derby (7 p.m. Wednesday), chainsaw art, and much, much more. (It is a whole week, after all.) Visit Macomb Patch for daily highlights.
Pricing: $7 adults; $2 kids age 9-12; free for kids 8 and under; parking is $5 for the day or $25 for a weekly pass


Where/When: , 4-7 p.m. Aug. 16.
Why Go: The North Branch of the library is celebrating its 10th anniversary with face painting, a Qwik Picz photo booth with free photos, cake walk and, of course, birthday cake. The Kona Ice truck will also be on site for those who wish to purchase something cool to beat the summer heat. Plus, the library has contests going on through Aug. 26, for kids, teen and adults, as part of the milestone.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: Tina's Country House, 50828 North Avenue, Macomb Township, 1-5 p.m. Aug. 17.
Why Go: Tina's Country House & Gardens is holding a Hawaiian Luau for seniors. Be transported to the tropics with a luncheon of barbecue pork loin, sweet and sour chicken, Maui rice, vegetables, salad, rolls, chocolate volcano cake, beverages and entertainment by Ricki and Dave.

Where/When: Guests set sail from the Clinton River Cruise Co., 152 N. River Road, Mount Clemens, 5:30-10 p.m. Aug. 17.
Why Go: The Clinton River Watershed Council and the Six Rivers Land Conservancy are holding their 7th Annual Clinton River Dinner Cruise Aboard the Clinton Friendship. The cruise will head down the Clinton River to Lake St. Clair while everyone enjoys dinner, entertainment and an evening on the water.

Where/When: Selfridge Air National Guard Base, near I-94 and Hall Road, Harrison Township. The party starts at 5 p.m. for VIPs or at 8 p.m. for general admission.
Why Go: Selfridge kicks off the air show weekend fun with a launch party the eve of the show. Head to Hangar 36, where the action happens. If you buy VIP tickets, you can arrive when the doors open at 5 p.m. and enjoy dinner at 6 p.m., plus premium seating for the Eddie Money concert at 8 p.m. and the fireworks at dusk. General admission can enter at 8 p.m. for the concert and pyrotechnics.
Pricing: $10 general admission, $40 VIP.

Where/When: , 6 p.m. Aug. 19.
Why Go: Just in time for the dog days of summer, Church of the Covenant is holding a free family/community hot dog supper, with all the trimmings. Dinner is served at 6 p.m., and a free movie will be shown at 6:45 p.m. Please call Gary E. Cynowa at 586-291-0399 or sign up on the clipboard in the main entrance of the church so the church will be sure to have enough food prepared for all guests.


Where/When: , dusk, Aug. 19-20.
Why Go: Fancy a movie under the stars? This weekend the Detroit Institute of Arts' (DIA) Detroit Film Theatre (DFT) and MI Community Media present Summer Cinema Evenings (SCE) in cooperation with Huron Clinton Metroparks. Two animated, family-friendly films will be shown, Eleanor's Secret on Friday and Mia and the Migoo on Saturday. The winning entrants of the Romeo Student Film Festival 2011 will also be shown both nights. Moviegoers are invited to bring along blankets, chairs, food and beverages (no glass, please). Refreshments will also be available.
Pricing: Free with park admission ($5 for a daily pass).


Where/When:Selfridge Air National Guard Base, near I-94 and Hall Road, Harrison Township, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 20-21.
Why Go: The Selfridge Air Show takes to the skies this weekend. Enjoy flying demonstrations by modern and historic military aircraft, military ground vehicles on display and more. One highlight is the B-1B Lancer, which will be parked for public viewing and in flight that weekend. Flying begins late in the morning on both days and approximately three dozen aircraft will be on ground display. FYI: No visitors will be allowed entry after 2 p.m. either day.
Pricing: Free admission and free parking.
