Happening This Week: Fall Fun, Civil War Skirmishes and Free Movies for Kids

Venture outdoors for a glimpse of the past, harvest festival fun and more.

Where/When: Clinton Township Senior Adult Life Center, 40700 Romeo Plank; 6-9 p.m. Oct. 6.

Why Go: The center is throwing an Oktoberfest bash for anyone 50 and older. Enjoy live music, cider and donuts, hayrides, raffles, a bonfire, s'mores, chili and more.

Why Go: Enjoy a magical fall evening by taking a wagon ride at Stony Creek. You'll drive through the woods, sit by the bonfire, roast marshmallows, listen to music, enjoy cider and donuts, and take home some fun memories.

Pricing: $6. 

Where/When: Fraternal Order of Police, 37445 Mound Road, Sterling Heights, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7.

Why Go: The Fraternal Order of Police holds its third annual Team SuperSam Poker Tournament, a No Limit Texax Hold'em fundraiser to benefit children with cancer Enjoy gambling, food, snacks and a shot at prizes.

Pricing: $60 to register.  

Where/When: , 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 8-9 and Oct. 15-16.

Why Go: Wiegand's is holding its Harvest Fest the next two weekends. Bring the kids; they'll enjoy the petting zoo featuring exotic animals, pumpkin decorating, face painting, cider and donuts, the caterpillar maze, straw tractor and variety shows at 3 p.m.

Pricing: $1 to $5 for some activities; the rest are free. 

Where/When: , 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct 8 and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 9.

Why Go: Wolcott Mill comes alive with the past this weekend with two days of Civil War reenactments. See soldiers clash and perform drills, sutlers sell wares, crafts being made, chores performed, hear music and more. Kids will learn hands-on lessons by joining a military drill, making a craft or attending a school lesson, 19th-century style. There will also be a reenactment of the Battle of Bull Run at 2 p.m. both days.
To get into the spirit of things, visitors can sign up for the  Saturday night. It starts at 7 p.m. and guests will be guided by an apparition through the era's turbulent past. It's not recommended for children under age 6. 

Pricing: $3 for adults, $1 for children to attend the Skirmish. The candlelight tour costs $6.

Where/When: MJR/Partridge Creek Cinemas, , Oct. 8 and 9.

Why Go: MJR/Partridge Creek Digital Cinema 14 offers its free Fall Children's Film Festival every Saturday and Sunday in October. This weekend's movie is Judy Moody, rated PG.

Pricing: Kids 12 and under get in free; parents pay $1. Show times will be announced the Wednesday prior. Visit here for the schedule. No advance tickets will be sold; everything's on a first-come, first-served basis.

Where/When: , noon-5 p.m. Oct. 8-9.

Why Go: Deneweth's holds its Fall Fun Fest every weekend in October, with a haunted house, corn maze, hayride, games, scary train, pumpkin fun and more.
