Immanuel Lutheran Families Buy Christmas Gifts for 300 Children

Good Shepherd Coalition and Abigail Ministries will distribute wrapped gifts to needy children.

Christmas is not complete without gifts. Thanks to one Macomb Township church, roughly 300 children will wake up to a wrapped surprise Dec. 25.

Immanuel Lutheran Church parishioners volunteered to adopt a family this holiday season. They purchased, wrapped and then donated gifts to the church. Without the sponsorship, many of the kids wouldn't have any gifts, according to Pastor Greg Griffith of Immanuel Lutheran.

This year over 150 of the children are from Macomb County through the Good Shepherd Coalition.   Immanuel also sponsored infants and toddlers through Abigail Ministries.

“It is always amazing to me to see moms, dads, and children together ‘adopt’ one of these kids and shop for them, pray for them, and love them as if they were their own family,” said Nancy Kruger, who oversees the mission project.  “We also pray that as each family opens up the gifts they not only see the physical gift, but more importantly they see and know the gift of Jesus in their home."
